Pyloric Stenosis

Well, there comes a time in every parents life where an emergency trip to the hospital will take place, for Erin and I that time came a short five weeks into parenthood. Always one to keep people on their toes, Jacob began vomiting early on last week and after it progressively got worse we decided to call his pediatrician on friday morning. No appointments were available for that day so they booked us for monday and told us to keep a close eye on him. We could have tried later on in the afternoon but we were supposed to go to my sister's wedding rehearsal. We called the pediatrician that saw him when Jacob was born and she got us in right away. She knew exactly what was happening when we explained his symptoms. Within half an hour we had a room reserved at a hospital and we were on our way for a sonogram to confirm the pediatrician's diagnosis. 

      The diagnosis was Pyloric Stenosis, which happens when the muscle that allows food to pass into the small intestine from the stomach grows too big and closes. The food is not able to pass and the only thing Jacob could do was vomit everything he ate. I KEPT TELLING HIM NOT TO DO SO MANY SIT UPS!

      Seriously though, for any parents or soon to be parents this could be a lethal condition that effects mostly first born male babies from 4-6 weeks of age. It is easily corrected by a short procedure and before the procedure was invented by a doctor in 1930 babies that had this eventually passed away.

      We were very lucky to have so many people praying for Jacob and for a great team of doctors that helped make him well again. Everybody says chicks dig scars, so Jacob is already even more of a chick magnet then he was before! YEA!

JACOB'S HERE!!!! WAS UP!

Well after a close call on friday night we were released from the hospital and the nurses said it could still be as long as 2-4 weeks away still. Erin and I were real excited when we got there but disappointed to leave. On the ride home Erin said, "I want to have him this weekend." Well, she got her wish!

Erin called me saturday morning while I was at work and said.... "Umm... you know all those big time contractions people keep telling me about, well I just had one!" I got home at 12:30p.m. and the doctor said not to come to the hospital until the contractions were 2-4 minutes apart and consistently coming that way for an hour. 

We cleaned the house, gathered our bags and watched the movie The Assassination of Jesse James. We left the house at 4:30p.m. and Erin was in her bed at the labor and delivery center by 5:15 p.m. Erin was already 6cm's dilated. At 7:41p.m. Jacob David Ferrera was born.... Yea!

New Piece in Baby room etc.,

This is Bruce, my college roommates son. He came to visit this weekend. He was very well behaved and Erin and I had a greatime getting to spend time with our old buddies from ACU.

We also installed the my favorite piece in Jacob's room. We bought this map three years ago and have been waiting for the right time to put it on the wall and  now that Jacob's on the way we've finally done it. I could have used a little help from Jared and or Dave 'cuz my initial attempt at hanging it went down in a ball of flames, leaving a nice hole in the wall but I think the frame does a nice job of covering it up.

Jene and Luke have also started their training for watching Jacob. We are gonna have to put in a lot of time and effort for the training but we figure to save a fortune on childcare. Laterz. JUST KIDDING for any of you gasping, with your hand on the speed dial button to a social worker right now.

Baby Shower for Erin

Erin, had a great baby shower this weekend. Some of our friends from ACU even came all the way from San Antonio. Apparently that's where "the real stuff comes from." For those of you not from Texas, that's what what the old Pace picante sauce commercials used to say. 

Erin and I received more nice gifts then we ever could have imagined and would like to thank all of you who took part and gave gifts for Erin's special baby day.

Wud up homies! Ummm.. this is the first time i've "blogged" I am sure anyone that has been interested in our blog has long since given up on possibly seeing new updates. But low and behold here we GO!!!!!!!!! This is our new furniture for the baby room, my favorite is the picture on the wall. Everyone make sure and tell Erin how TOTALLY AWESOME it is because she didn't want it at first. Hey, maybe more to come later. Later.
